We need help with a name for "The Land". Got any ideas? Go ahead and submit them! We probably won't use them, but maybe somebody will come up with a good one! |

July 1-2, 2006 We celebrated Independence Day in 2006 with another cookout/campout on "The Land". The party was held on Saturday, July 1st and Sunday, July 2nd and we had about 80 attendees. Activities included swimming, face painting, fireworks, music, a projected movie, s'mores, sno cones, dinner, and breakfast. The weather was clear and beautiful -- but HOT! (pictures) |

July 2-3, 2005 We had our annual Fourth of July cookout up on The Land again this year. It was a great weekend that included a cookout, a bonfire, s'mores, volleyball, and 4-wheeling. Some folks even camped out all night and then had breakfast in the morning. The kids were occupied with a sprinkler, wade pool, temporary tattoos, glow necklaces, and a cookie-decorating table (thanks Cass!). We finished the night off with our biggest fireworks show yet, and we all had a great weekend. Can't wait for next year! (pictures) June 30, 2005 We have water! Everything has finally come together and we now have a working water meter on The Land. We tested it today and hooked up a hose to it and it works great. It's going to be so nice to have access to fresh water up there, especially during the upcoming Fourth of July cookout! June 20, 2005 In preparation for this year's 4th of July party, we mowed the field over the weekend. The weeds were tall and thick, but the mower made quick work of them. There are about a million blackberries that are almost ripe and the driveway made it through the winter without much damage. The biggest news is that we are *this close* to having city water on the land! Should be all set within a week or two. (pictures) July 4, 2004 This year's 4th of July party was held up on the land. We had about 50 guests and we cooked out on our big fire pit and made s'mores and launched fireworks. Some folks even camped overnight in tents. It was a great weekend and a really fun way to celebrate the 4th. (pictures) March 28, 2004 After sitting through our first winter as land owners, we got a good start on the spring by renting a tractor with a bushhog, and we used it to cut down the overgrowth and saplings that were covering most of the land. It took the better part of a weekend, but we managed to get it all mowed flat and it looks so much nicer and bigger now! (pictures) October 25, 2003 Keep offa mah land! We needed to do something to keep people from driving up into our land and dumping (seems to be a habit of some folks), so we're putting up a fence and gate at the main entrance. Today, Mike and Shanon helped us dig some post holes and place eight posts in concrete. (pictures) October, 2003 We bought some land! We had started looking casually for a nice chunk of wilderness to build on in a few years, and a friend spotted this tract which we instantly fell in love with. It's 22.6 acres of nearly-flat land surrounded by trees. The driveway crawls up the side of the property, along the creek. When you reach the top, you're treated to a view that is determined to stay uninterrupted for years to come. The plan now is to camp, hike, and explore and enjoy the land as a retreat until down the road when we plan to build a home on it. (pictures) |
